Tips for Fire Emergencies

  • Relocate all family members and pets to a hygienic and secure location.
  • Minimize all movement within the affected area or entire building, in order to keep you safe and to avoid any further damage to the premises. Avoid returning to collect personal items until the area has been declared safe.
  • If possible, open the windows to ventilate.
  • In the event that it is winter time and the heat is off, pour anti-freeze in the toilet bowls, sinks, and tubs.
  • If smoke damage is specific to one area, close that door to contain the contamination put a towel at the bottom of the door in order to help minimize further spreading of the odour.
  • Stay out of all rooms with water-sagging ceilings.
  • Do not use any electrical appliances or devices until they have been inspected.
  • Do not attempt to wash surfaces with residential cleaning products.
  • Do not consume any food that has been exposed to fire or smoke.
